The Difference Between a Babysitter and a Nanny.
I don’t know if it is just me but I hate being called a “sitter”. I am not a babysitter, I’m a nanny. I am the one who takes the kids to their various sports practices, feeds them and makes sure their homework is finished. I am not someone who just sits on the couch and watches tv in hopes the kids are ok. I work hard and to be called “Just a sitter” is offensive to me. This is my job. I take it very seriously and to be called a sitter at 23 pisses me off. I clean, cook and help raise these kids. A babysitter is just a person who comes to the house when mommy and daddy want to go out to dinner and a movie. A nanny helps raise the kids. A nanny becomes a part of the family (or should). A nanny is not just the help. A nanny deserves respect. I am not saying that babysitters don’t deserve respect but c’mon…. babysitters are usually teenage girls who come over to the house, maybe feed them dinner and put them to bed. During the rest of the night they are either talking to their friends on the phone, studying for finals or watching the Hills. A nanny is working non-stop to make sure the house runs smoothly. She is the one cooking dinner for the family, cleaning up afterwards, doing laundry, tutoring the kids, driving the kids around, grocery shopping…. the list goes on. I think nannies deserve a little more respect. So, the next time you meet a nanny please do not call her “just the sitter”.

I totally agree with you. I am a nanny! My boss calls me her ‘babysitter’. It drives me crazy. I pick the kids up from school, take them to various activities and play dates/groups, take them to routine check-ups, and so on. I travel internationally with the family I work for! I do so much more than a ‘babysitter’. I am a college educated professional and I proudly call myself a nanny!

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!
i hate being called a sitter!
i pick them up from school, snack time, craft time, pool time, dinner time, homework time, bath time, BED TIME! i do it all!
the dad calls me the nanny…the mom doesnt.
AND YOU KNOW WHAT, so do my friends, they dont work at all like i do, they dont get paid like i do, and they call me a sitter. i want to shoot them.
I’m sixteen, but i am a nanny, its not just the credentials-its the responsibility.
